Serious question: Do you believe climate change is a scam? #asknostr nostr:note15my6xgenn2y77vh878u23v5wntddm2zn4y40ryeg7tdp2esux27ssyzgu2
Discussion
Part of it is probably true, but it’s mainly abused for political and money/power reasons imo.
I believe there will always be grifters taking advantage of an actual humanitarian problem (as they always do) to try and further entrench their own positions of power and wealth.
But if you combine intelligence with a reasonable amount understanding of the scientific method, it’s pretty clear the global climate is changing as a result of human activity, and that there will likely be negative ramifications.
It’s also an incredibly nuanced issue. We NEED to use more energy, because that is how humans thrive.
Solar/wind have significant hurdles. Nuclear is often-maligned but would make a huge impact.
Bitcoin mining can help significantly with all of these issues (and more), which is one reason I’m optimistic for the world that my grandchildren will live in.
Biggest scam
nope. climate change is real. lots of human and natural factors contribute to it. the problem lies with science changing all of the time as we gather more data, which is how science has worked since time began and we wanted to know how things worked. however, people don't like change and don't like being told different things, so they think they're getting scammed. which isn't the case here. it's just we literally don't know how things work and are constantly trying to understand it, thus the information changes. it's probably not as bad as alarmists feel it is and it's probably worse than naysayers think it is. it's probably somewhere in the middle, as with most things, IMO.
Actually it’s bad as alarmists say. If suddenly a miracle happens until 2033, Turkey will be a lost most of lakes and rivers. Our dams mostly empty. Recently we heard the news that Istanbul has only left with water that is enough only for 60 days. There will be deductions in following days probably.
I used to. So I studied the science over a period of 6 years. We’re fucked.
An additional 0.33 Watts per sqr meter are being trapped by the burning of #fossil fuels , deforestation etc. = 15 Hiroshima bombs a second additional heat.
The kettle has been turned on, we’re just waiting for it to boil now. It takes ten years.
Emissions are still increasing every year. Nothing is being done. Even if we stop burning fossil fuels today we go to +2 to 3c of warming. Business as usual = +7c warming.
#climate emergency
Climate change is not a scam. Government policy is. Alarmism is. Prepare accordingly.
Regardless of your position, we individually only gain by being more resource efficient and by being prepared for the worst.
Also, Tragedy of the Commons is real and something that cannot be ignored by the most avid AnCaps.
Ok many reasons why it is but I'll try this 1:
It is indisputable that increased temp causes increased atmospheric co2 - as gases are less soluble in water with higher temp, plus ground melts releasing gas.
If the reverse were also true, and increased co2 led to increased temp, then any rise in temp or co2 through history would lead to runaway heating.
The fact that earth has not had runaway heating, despite continual climate change throughout history, shows either co2 doesn't cause temp rise, or else there is some overwhelming stabilization effect.
Either way the alarmism is nonsense.
(There are many other reasons)
Don’t get me wrong, mate, but this is something like my 10 years older might come up with. If this was caused by natural effects, that would be the case. But if you read the thread that I quoted, you can see my emperical knowledge on the issue. If I need to come to your reason, you can look at this note that I replied to nostr:npub18vdjk3mvdlkwhgfg9nrvy6qqnamchhxea55d8vasjyag95df2tgswzawt7 to explain global warming in very basic level. Cheers 🫂

No answer to my point?
What can individuals do in the face of so much outright corruption taking advantage of any legitimacy in the need to reduce emissions ? Solar, wind being pushed and instead of nuclear.. The EV push causing disgusting wars and sending children to mines for cobalt, destroying entire ecosystems mining it. If this is the route we choose to solve this problem i dont think the means justify the ends...just can't support giving it anymore votes or money.
Can’t find anything to say. But I hate to stay silent. This is our planet, not only them. We need our voice to be heard. Unless, we got screwed anyways.
The science behind it is NOT a scam. It's a thing. It's real.
What politicians & "green" parties all over the West make out of it, just to fear you into behaving as they want it, IS a scam.
Period.
The climate is changing.
Is climate change an existential threat to our civilization as the climate cult would like you to believe? Absolutely not!
My biggest issue with the discussion is the people screaming about the problem have no idea what they are talking about and their solutions just make the issues worse…we have “just stop oil” idiots protesting by throwing petroleum based paint on historic artwork or creating traffic jams which lead engines just idling and burning more fuel. Not to mention they push unreliable and ineffective solar and wind power but reject nuclear…
Your biggest issue is also concerns me. These clowns kills the issues legitimacy. Nuclear is also considered as “green” unless you don’t messed up with the waste. Giving up on it also idiotic.
Climate is change since the earth’s existence but for 150 years (beginning of Industrial Revolution) we have been politing the atmosphere and our planet. And I can observe their effects for couple of years now. Our lakes and rivers were dried, rest of them are drying. Dams are almost empty. Istanbul has water which is enough less then 60 days. This July was the hottest month of last 143 years. Most of cities in Turkey see above 40 degrees of celcius (last year the average was around 33 degrees). And we lost a postwoman in Izmir, Turkey due to brain hemmorage caused by extremely high temperatures.
I can go on with examples but you get the point.
Possibly naive to say the climate doesn’t change ever? Surely it either changed in someway when compared with past, present or future?
About the only thing we know for sure is that, yes, the climate always changes.
Is the current change unusual?
Nobody knows. There is simply no data to show what normal variation in global temperature (worth considering how elusive a notion this is) over the course of decades is.
