Question for you nostr:npub1lh273a4wpkup00stw8dzqjvvrqrfdrv2v3v4t8pynuezlfe5vjnsnaa9nk how can the highest hashrate miner at the moment sitting at 44.8ph/s only have 3.91% of shares? This is currently contributing 1/3 of all hash and so I’m trying to understand how that math works

While my brain can’t comprehend numbers in this size, but I think the combined hashrate is in the EH/s. So PH/s is smaller?

I honestly don’t know. What E and P mean 😂

Petahash is smaller than Exahash.

1000 PH/s = 1 eh/s

Ocean pool has 130PH/s at the moment, I’m just trying to understand how the payout structure works especially with large contributing hash and PPLN shares that aren’t adding up to that

Would be easier to understand with viewable code.

You listen to Stephan Livera’s podcast with Bitcoin Mechanic?

Oh! I understand now. lol

There is one miner in Ocean with 1/3 of the hashrate.

When you said all hashrate my brain thought all the network hash.

Legit question.

I wasn’t very specific so I’ll take the blame for that miscommunication

Nah, I just woke up and words are just a soup of letters right now 😅

Yes overall global hash rate is higher but the pools has rate is much smaller.

This one miner has 1/3 of the pools hash rate this they should have an equal amount of shares (1/3) normally.

i wish they had reset the pool stats when the pool was rebranded as ocean.

on this issue though, it may have to do with when that miner joined the pool. if new, its share will reflect less than its potential once TIDES are factored

TIDES? When are tides factored in? I know nothing about that side of things

Always factored from first hash. TIDES is most similar to PPLNS, but presumably over a longer overall period with 8 buckets vs 1 which makes it smoother, fairer, and more rewarding for those that stick with the pool as its luck based.

It would be great if Luke explained this in greater detail, correcting what ive simplified above. A visual explaining payout methods and where TIDES fits in would also be an ideal addendum to the site.

Pre 2028 sats mean nothing to someone joining today. Resetting it we be legit

It’s not 1/3rd of all hash if the number you gave is accurate, that would need to be Exahash, not Petahash. Maybe they meant that percentage of the pool specifically, not global hashrate.

I mean 1/3 of Ocean pool’s hash* sorry early morning typing

Using a fraction doesn't make sense in this scenario. Yesterday they went from sub 40Ph to over 140Ph so any fraction would be incorrect 24 hours later.
