'you can use it in a totally sovereign way, connecting your own node and plugin into many apps thanks to WebLN protocol.

But there’s also an easy and accessible wallet experience for newcomers and users who aren't necessarily up for the struggles of running a node, like artists and creators. Alby Accounts provide exactly that.'

You me and my dog all know that most people, are not going to set up their own lightning node. For a start it requires a personal server/cost, and technical skills Not even bitcoin enthusiasts and techy folk can be bothered with this cost/effort . I know some will, but most won't.

If you install Phoenix Wallet, you run a lightning node. It does not require any skills

It requires always being online for transactions. But in any case we weren't talking about Phoenix, I was specifically talking about Alby's custodial wallet, which defeats the purpose of self sovereign bitcoin.

We're literally wrote this to communicate we're working on self sovereign solution

I see that, but its just PR fluff, most people won't use it. Like all those companies releasing 'self hosted open source' software who sell a subscription service because they absolutely DEPEND on most people not self hosting. If that were to change then their business kinda fails.

I struggle to visualize a world where most people even use lightning. Though I accept it could happen. But do you honestly visualise a world where most people who use lightning will self custody aswell? I think theres a much greater chance of quantum computing breaking bitcoin before that happens

I don't know, it's definitely not ready now, but may be in the future. I am convinced future is multilayer, not everything will be happening on lightning. Every layer design has tradeoffs, and some are better for one usecases, other for others
