I have no issues using lightning and I wouldn’t consider myself a tech wizard. It’s not that hard and it continues to get easier (e.g., nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 allows you to run a self custodial lightning node on an iPhone).

What would be the point in custodial bitcoin? One of the main reasons bitcoin was invented is to have a private, decentralised, non custodial digital currency that doesn't depend on centralised companies like visa/paypal. WHy would anyone buy bitcoin and use coinbase instead of just using paypal, other than for asset speculation purposes?
Bitcoin doesn't scale, thats what kaspa claims to solve. There is a need to scale. L2 sucks, its mostly an over centralised complicated Rube Goldberg device to make bitcoin work.
why not if you can? It makes everything easier and user friendly for people. L2s biggest problem (and there are many problems) is its usability. Lightnng is complicated to understand and set up, which means most peopleuse custodial wallets, and thats just not what bitcoin wants. And even then its a faf.
The UK has more CCTV per capita than China (the highest in the world). It also has more prisoners per capita than China, not as much as the US though. China invests in its people, in infrastructure, schools, healthcare, roads, high speed rail etc. - something the US does not do much anymore because the US is run by profit seeking megacorporations and china is run by govnts that limit what those corporations can do, and a govnt that taxes corps properly so it can invest in the people and its nation.

Bitorrent protocol isn't used much by the masses, but it has been around a very long time now, (in computer years) and contuniues to be used more and more. An amazing protocol that hasn't died and will likely live longer than facebook or twitter because it does things no other protocol does. Nostr I think will be the same. Growth is not a metric of its usefulness, not many people use soldering irons but without them the world would be very differnt..
I'm a lefty, libertarian communist. Centralised servers and censorship are just never going to work for free thinkers. Its clear to me that Nostr is the most progressive social media protocol that actually works (currently). Key rotation would be nice, but I'd still rather have a key to lose than no key at all. Nostr is dominated by people with a very pro capitalist political bent (mostly around crypto)and while I disagree with many here on the politics of that, I rarely find them rude or unable to engage in a good faith civilised discussion. I also find them more open minded (despite our political differences) than people on other platforms who just want a fight about trivial issues,even though we broadly agree on the main issues. Its actually refreshing, and enough to keep me here as it is, whatever the future holds. We are never going to progress in society for the betterment of all if we stick in our echo chambers and fight anyone who wants to challenge that.
Its hard to imagine they wouldn't do this. Its not even like they would care if they got caught. They have already been caught abusing our data multiple times, they just shrug and so do the public, eventually accepting it as a part of normal life to be snooped on by unknown things at unknown times by unknown entities. The only people who can regulate them are govnts, who are the very people who use their tech to spy on us.

Can someone please tell me what the main differences (pros/cons) are between the AT protocol and nostr. ie what are the advantages of choosing AT protocol over nostr (and separately how does bluesky compare to Nostr in terms of decentralisation/interoperability with other AT clients). Why don't nostr devs prefer to use the AT protocol?
thats great but 99.9999999 % of all phone users are not. Encouraging usage of monero on android is a bad idea and bad for monero. I wouldn't encourage anyone to use any crypto with android.
