I still don’t get the Business Model for relays.
My understanding is that they transmit notes and other stuff in exchange for subscriptions on a paid relay or donations on a free one. I’m not a relay expert though. I just know for sure that they don’t run for free

Still not very clear how this will work. Say I have a relay, do i still have to support another relay because I also use their services?
Not to mention there is no payment channel between me and the relay, I don’t even know who owns the relays. I need to go look for them to pay them.
If you value a service that you use, I guess you can pay for it. You don’t have to, but the relay will cease to exist when it runs out of funds.
Usually, for a paid relay, you replace was:// by http:// and type in the rest of the address on a web browser. It’ll bring you to a page where you have some info on the relay and can generate an invoice to by with sats. For other relays, you simply connect to it and you’ll receive a message from the relay via dm on nostr to pay with sats. So you don’t necessarily need to know the relay owner.
In Damus for example, if you go into relays and tap on the i to the right, it brings you to a page in damus where you can see the a link to the relay owners npub and what nips are supported by the relay.

You can look for better relays on nostr.watch
You can filter by latency to see if you find one that’s faster or see where they are geographically to find more users close to home/that you want to interact with.
You can also ask people you interact with the most which relays they prefer and connect to those. That’s the beauty of nostr you can connect to any relay

In theory sure. In practice, what do you do when it’s cloudy, at night, or when the solar panels are covered with snow 🤷🏾♂️😬
