The creepy thing is Youtube would show me ads related to what I was tweeting about this past year.

warren, youtube datamines cookies and FF/Safari history.

I run a very tight debian ship over here, and I'll be doing something, and a day or half a day later, I'll get youtubes top videos showing up as ...

stuff i searched for on qwant.com, or even mentioned on mastodon..

That shouldn't be possible. It should get treated as a severe security bug, and YouTube should be sued for exploiting it.

I agree, in exacting specificity.

use ff developer mostly, and here's the vague, although definitive (i know what i saw) evidence over here.

i dont think this is correct. more likely it is just a tracking cookie used to build a profile of you whenever google assets are loaded.

ie, you watched some youtube videos, then went to twtiter, where another youtube video was shared, this is then added to a profile of your 'interests'.

either way, i recommend downloading ungoogled-chromium and only accessing google services (and nothing else) through that one browser.

interesting. the only google service i use is youtube.

Yandex works well too. They probably don't have too much in common with western social media.

i like that one.

I suspect they make use of your IP address, maybe browser fingerprinting as well. That way they may be able to track you without cookies and across browsers.
