I do appreciate that. My good buddy is currently in class and is a bit OCD. My bubble gum welds generally work fine for most of the random shit I do. Little grinder, a little paint, makes a welder what he ain’t, ya know. Mostly run flux core too, which is not easy to make pretty. It trips me out every time he hands me his MIG setup and has me run a bead with it how much better it looks lol
Fluxcore is really versatile, though. I ran thousands of miles of it when I worked in a structural shop. You can make it look good, but, most of the time people don't do enough prep for that...
I agree. I’m one of those that don’t do enough prep. Most of my welding is just personal shit and with 2 youngins under 2, I’m trying to get as much done as I can before my wife hollers at me that she needs help or something lol. I did do some fairly pretty work on the bracket we made for the coolant filter on my dad’s F250. I still gotta plumb said filter into the cooling system but it and the bracket are mounted lol
Young kids are definitely the priority! As always, do the best you can with what you've got!
That’s it. If I’m getting paid I been known to get fancy, but I don’t have time to worry about pretty with my personal shit, especially when most of it is stuff to make my vehicles or trailers better work vehicles to make me more money or save me time on a job.
