The first step in AA is recognizing powerlessness over alcohol. So in this program the first step should be recognizing powerlessness under a debilitating attitude or slave mentality.

I think it starts with accepting the unsettling reality we exist in. you must first take the red pill to understand your predicament if you want any chance at escaping.
