So what’s the takeaway

I think Dems just had a bad candidate. Could have won with someone else.

While I think you're right, I also think it's dangerous to loose sight of the degree to which many normal Americans believe that Democratic leadership doesn't respect or care about them.

Both based on what I hear talking heads, and friends/neighbors/coworkers say, I get the impression that many well educated Dems, and Dem leadership want a technocracy, and as long as that's the case, I expected them to be weak against an "every man" populist.

As someone who doesn't think that either side even flirts with the grand ideals that they lay out and speak of, I fear that a lot of Dems will mistake a symptom for the ailment, and a bandaid for the cure.

How about this nugget.

Trump won Starr County TX, at 97%, the most Hispanic county in the USA, by 16 points. The last time Starr County voted republican was 1892.

WOW.

In 2020, President Joe Biden won the county with 52 percent of the vote and in 2016, Hillary Clinton won with 79 percent of the vote.

Something has gone terribly wrong with the dems message. It’s not landing, at all
