Day 7: #grownostr initiative

This is the western half of my property. I prefer to keep it this way, but would love to interact with it in some way. My wife had the idea of growing and harvesting mushrooms. Does anyone else do this?

I have some logs I inoculated with oyster and shiitake mushrooms. Took some work to do but now a few times a year I get a nice flush of mushrooms.

I'm thinking of this as well. Do you have any pictures handy?

Can't see any pictures of preparing the logs on my phone, would have to go digging through folders on the pc.

If you get the chance to share how you initiated this process that would be awesome 🤩

For sure. I am really liking this idea. As much as I would like to be, I'm not at all confident about foraging mushroom. But if I knew exactly where I placed the mushrooms to grow and then come back and harvest them...so awesome.

What type of logs are those?

I used maple and poplar.

Cool. I think alder is my best bet here.

I just bought 11 acres 9 of which is completely wooded with a seasonal creek.

I to am planning on leaving the vast majority of it wild.

I'm sure there are mushrooms I just need to find them.

We have a spot on our property that we might also be able to propagate mushrooms on but haven’t gotten to that yet. You will have to keep us updated if you go about this! I would be very curious to hear more! Also I might steal your idea with titling my posts “day x of #grownostr initiative” I like it! ☺️

Very cool. We will definitely post any progress on that front and probably a lot of other fronts too. I would take it as an honor if you use my titling protocol.
