Am I the only one who never got into WhatsApp? Also, am I the only one that always found it odd that there is this hugely wildly used bare bones messaging app that doesn’t charge its users but is also run by the same company behind Facebook and Instagram?

I know it’s popular in many countries but it was never a big hit in the US since most Americans have unlimited SMS. Also, I’m not complaining that it’s free but it always made me wonder, what’s their motivation for running it and keeping it free?

I’ve never used it. Learned not to trust what claim to be “free”

In the case of most "free" services, *you* and your information are the merchandise.😳😮

Right. There is a lot to gain from centralized, closed-source comms platforms that market themselves as free and convenient while they surveil and harvest scores of user data.
