I haven’t! But why bring that up? Perhaps you confused “polygamy” with “polyglot.” “Glot” is related to the root word for “languages”, that’s why I mentioned languages right after saying the word “polyglot.”

Does anyone know how to set “preferred languages” on feed?

There’s an option somewhere to only show preferred languages on feed under translations, but I can’t find a way to actually set them.

For those of you who use both #Bluesky and #Mastodon- and please feel free to disagree with me- is it just my feed, the algorithm itself, or is it just that people on Bluesky seem to be more belligerent and inflammatory? People on there seem to be behaving in a very #Twitter type way and getting into these insane flame wars and compulsively posting.

Mastodon and from Damus from what I can see both seem more... mature? Am I wrong? Anyone else have similar experiences?

Is it possible that people on Twitter sometimes (or often) do not comment on posts made by smaller accounts because they do not think that post from that “low follower” account is worth their time, and that they’re less likely to get the responses and likes they’re craving from a potential response?

It’s funny I’ve been thinking about trying this for the longest time, but I’ve never got around to it

Am I the only one who never got into WhatsApp? Also, am I the only one that always found it odd that there is this hugely wildly used bare bones messaging app that doesn’t charge its users but is also run by the same company behind Facebook and Instagram?

I know it’s popular in many countries but it was never a big hit in the US since most Americans have unlimited SMS. Also, I’m not complaining that it’s free but it always made me wonder, what’s their motivation for running it and keeping it free?

Merci c’est gentil! I’ve mostly just done Ruby at my jobs I try not to do too much screen time programming in my little free time, I’m not that dedicated sadly

Not related to censorship, per se, but one thing that’s crazy to me is how much of a monopoly there is in the mobile phone OS market- it’s literally just two systems realistically. A lot do their standards seem reasonable- for quality and safety- but the stuff with preventing people from earning their money without the App Stores taking a cut is kind of insane. And it’s all because the native apps are only moderately more convenient than a progressive web app on one’s Home Screen.

For #Introductions ! I’m a software developer (Ruby). My side interests include languages and striving to be a #polyglot - I am a native English speaker and can speak French, Spanish and Portuguese at a high level and intermediate Turkish and Persian, and dabbling on and off in Russian, Romanian, Tagalog, etc.

I’m learning to cook more, spend more time outdoors, reading, and sometimes just doing nothing and breathing. I’m interested in seeing humans become happier and healthier; finding balances with technology and the physical world in ways that our use of highly addictive and possibly soon “legacy” social media have not facilitated. Hope folks are on their own journeys to getting what they want out of life in a peaceful and healthy way!
