I reached 1 year of learning Spanish with Duolingo yesterday. While I don't think Duolingo is the perfect way to learn a language, I have definitely made some good progress. I'm now at the point where I can read some things in Spanish and often get a general understanding, although there are still a lot of words I don't know. Responding in Spanish is harder. I wouldn't be able to have an in depth conversation but I know enough that would be useful for travelling (asking for directions, shopping, ordering food etc).

What I found has worked for me is doing an average of 5-6 lessons per day (about 15-20 minutes). Less than that and I felt I wasn't making much progress, more and it is sometimes hard to take everything in.

The most important things though, which apply generally to achieving most things in life, are persistence and consistency.

very well done Sir, congrats! thanks for the example and sharing your experience 🤙🫂

I like Duolingo. I've been using it casually for Spanish, also for about a year. And while I'm not fluent, I've picked up enough to have a basic conversation. I'm surrounded by Spanish speakers, and I've also noticed that I'm able to understand more and more of their conversations. I like to fall asleep listening to the Duolingo podcasts, which tell stories in your chosen language. I think you get what you put into it.

I think it is easier to pick up when you are around Spanish speakers. I’m not around anyone speaking Spanish now but I was exposed to a lot of Spanish when I was a child as my father was from Spain which I think has helped as I already knew a lot of words and Spanish pronunciation. I didn’t know about the Duolingo podcasts, I’ll have to check them out!

Ya, definitely check out the podcast. You should be able easily locate it in any podcast app. The stories are of differing levels, so you can listen to stories at the level you're at. I've found them very helpful. Good luck on your journey!

Bueno hombre, y para cuándo el post en español?
