In the article, they talk about analyse of Monero without details and credit cards involved, that really seems a bad opsec actually and not a break of Monero's privacy. Monero donāt need to be an expert to be anonymous, running itās own node or using Tor is enough in the vast majority of usecase, but there is other points to check, especially if you are doing wrong things... so yes I have serious doubts about Monero being the way to track them
