To add, as of now, in Greece and Turkey people are at least still trusted with the intelligence to heat their homes with firewood on the countryside.
The overreaching, patronizing rules and regulations as to how to operate a woodstove or fireplace e.g. in Germany is depriving people of the healing power of natural, dry fire warmth.
I agree 100%
Many of these EU statistics are misleading.
What I do here in Greece, as well as most people in the small towns and villages around me is this: To use the pruned branches from the olive trees to heat our homes during the winter period (December to April).
I did this for three years in a row already and didn't need anything else. 100% sustainable heat source from a self-grown olive grove. It's even 'climate neutral' if you want to use such nonsensical language 😄
We did de same thing in Croatia, the south Mediterranean part. You can do it nowadays as well but most of the people use Airconditioning for heating during the winter period (November to March).
And yes, the statistic is misleading
Cool 👌 Yes, the old, old generations knew very well how to live in tune with nature. It's a pity people choose the AC if they have the possibility of a woodstove. They forgot about the healthy warmth and psychological well-being real fire provides. In a city it's beneficial for fireplaces to be regulated due to local concentrated pollution. But on the countryside with sustainable wood provision, let people be!
