How long until they change the calendar?

How long until they bring back Napoleon?

What?

The king of England helped celebrated Eid but I saw nothing about Lent and Easter!! He is supposed to be the Defender of the faith, the head of the Church of England!!

trying to be welcoming & inclusive, i suppose? lent and easter are traditional.

I get that but nothing about HIS church.

The current King of England has never been particularly fond of England or the English.

The next one will be better.

I think it's over. What if he had "reverted" as the Muslims say? I truly believe that tptb are doing all they can to kill Christianity

It will not pass. The days of this prime minister are numbered.

After seven years of catastrophic mismanagement, Emmanuel Macron and François Bayrou are incapable of making any real savings, and are presenting the French with yet another bill: almost twenty billion euros in taxes and deprivation.

No savings on the cost of immigration, subsidies for out-of-control intermittent energies, a seven-billion-euro increase in our contribution to the European Union, nothing on bureaucracy in hospitals or education.

This government prefers to take it out on the French, workers and pensioners, rather than hunt down waste.

As for boosting production, apart from abolishing standards in conjunction with local players, as proposed by the Rassemblement National, this is nothing more than wishful thinking.

If François Bayrou doesn't change his mind, we'll censure him.

I'm shocked, but I was able to read most of the French. I studied French for 5 years, but haven't used it for 30+. I don't think I can write or speak it very well anymore and I doubt I can understand the spoken very well (at least not if they don't talk super slowly), but I can mostly follow the written word. That is exciting.

Then you have the base, and the base never goes away.

If you ever find yourself immersed in a french, you’ll pick it up in no time for certain !

Vive la France 🇫🇷 ⚜️

There are definitely some words and phrases that I internalized and don't have to translate. I used to have great French grammar (according to the French exchange student that stayed with us one summer), but that is entirely gone.

How did you decide to learn french ?

My school only offered French and Spanish. French just sounded better to me. In reality, living in Florida, Spanish probably would've been more useful, but I liked French.

well, there is a lot of french just next door in new orleans and georgia also, but they are swampy places, not so much beachy places

I moved to South Florida where there were a lot of Cubans. French and Spanish are close enough, I could usually get the general idea from a Spanish conversation, but I couldn't speak Spanish because it would always come out with a French accent.

I can speak menu in multiple languages. Even if you can't say anything else, at least you can order some quality food.

haha, nice. yeah, i have to say though, idk why, but whenever i hear french speech around me here in portugal i get ... idk, like i don't like the sound of it and i don't want to be friends with them. i'm not sure where i developed this reaction. maybe it was due to northwest africans, of which many speak french, and are utter... expletives.

The french of these north west africans is not well received by the french themselves, it’s understandable.

yeah, it is more gutteral and vulgar

It assaults my ears. I vehemently dislike it. It’s not even french really.

the culture is absolutely gutter also. i got stuck in a remand center cell with 3 of them for 3 months, algerians, moroccans... ugh. got in a fight with two of them, threw my boot at one haha

Hahaha, so casually dropping such a piece of lore.

How did that happen ?

i was selling bromo dragonfly on black market reloaded. the pigs got whiff of it and arranged a sting and arrested me out the front of my apartment, nearly killed me in the process, 4 broken ribs and severe superficial damage on my forehad. doctors x-rayed my head 5 times because they couldn't believe i didn't have a skull fracture.

yeah, i got stuck in with them because of this older moroccan berber who spoke 5 languages, his main profession was translator. after the second fight they moved me to a cell with much nicer people, a notorious macedonian coke smuggler, the more civilised brother of a pair. now there was another incident in there but not with me, these guys were ok, nowhere near as bad, but there was this whale of a half-gypsy half bulgarian guy he stole food from the macedonian and got totally shit beaten out of him, the guards made jokes about it, calling this guy (his name was Blazho) "klichko" as in the famous ukranian boxer who totally trashed one dude in a fight and didn't have one mark on him.

I joke that I stay in Germany because it has the nicest prisons, but I'm only half-joking.

Nice prisons are underrated. Never know, when you might end up in one.

hopefully never again but due to segregation of foreigners from gypsies from bulgarians, probably was a lot better experience than i would have had in australia. australian prisoners are notoriously violent.

I would not have expected to hear this story at all. It’s impressive really. Of course, I hope it never happens again.

yeah, i sometimes think about it, like, if i get taken away what books i would take with me... i got a bible and a few nice apocrypha... lol

Gotta be ready to go down swinging too.

It frustrates to me no end that I’m not currently capable of martially preparing for such scenarios.

“Hit the gym”, that’s great but it’s not enough to make a man truly free.

yeah i was in a pretty bad shape when i went in. but the food was so bad no amount of exercise was gonna gain muscle, i just hit a wall, though i could do 100 pushups and 100 situps lol

So true. I’m glad this chapter is in the past.

It's nuts to cancel Easter and make the French work harder, when there are so many opportunities for savings.

1- reduce the giga retirement pensions

2- stop giving social aids to literally everyone

3- fire at least one third of the public sector

4- reduce taxes to incentivize investments

The sad reality is that no party in France has enough balls to do that.

Not done yet

Literally Bayrou. 😂

?

enforced secularism?

Maybe.

Mostly, the French government heard that there were sometimes French people happy, spending holidays with friends and family and picknicking in good weather, and decided to tell them to

GET BACK TO WORK!

French citizens actually work quite a bit.

france is oppressive again

Always with the kicking away of the fundamentals of your society. Have they not looked at the USSR maybe?
