You could just drive a beater worth $2k or less, like my wife and I do.

Still have running costs and parking.
the way in which i am more like millennial is that i never owned a house, i never owned a car, barely even owned a motorcycle
the predatory way in which governments tax, and promote monopolies on insurance on transport is absolutely disgusting, and i'm tired of pretending it isn't
no wait, i already went to court to fight this back in australia in 2010
in a tribunal i probably would have been granted the right to appeal but it was an australian summary jurisdiction, aka kangaroo court, i brought a heavy argument against them that dates back to 1624 and the dude was in chambers 2 hours to try and cobble together a counterargument, and spent 45 minutes reciting case law that had nothing to do with my counterclaim
This was a case against taxes?
against them stealng my property for conveying it across public roads after i paid taxes on the fuel
the amount of taxes and fees and licenses they have in australia are absurd, as i understand it, south africa and israel are equally fucked up
in bulgaria, my motorcycle only required registration, no compulsory insurance and no license, 50cc is barely a conveyance more than a horse ffs
Almost €900/year for insurance, another couple for taxes, etc. And gasoline is like €0.70 liter. And repairs and inspection are atrocious.
And, like, why? It usually just sits around, unused, and the call bus stop is directly in front of my house. Most cars are hardly ever moved.
and i bet it's getting worse and worse and worse... i see the stats on the auto market in USA... it's in the middle of a collapse, and EVs have been a total disaster
Oh yeah, I guess parking is mostly free in the US.
Running costs are real, though.
