Gm. Some random reflective observations from vacation.

Americans are killing themselves on fake food with plates of it the size of Texas.

It's easier to give a kid a screen than to treat them like a human and converse with them or let them be bored. If we continue to do the easy thing, we will not do hard things.

I am ever so lucky to have 2 beautiful “normal” children, it is my only job to raise them to be ₿etter than the previous generation.

“Americans can always be trusted to do the right thing, once all other possibilities have been exhausted.”

GM, good to be different 🤙🏽

Same. My kids are smart, not indoctrinated, and not obese and lazy. God is good 💪

Saw a Facebook thread the other day with a couple of old high school friends talking back and forth. Commenting on their young kids' iPad use.

When it's plugged in the kids are constantly watching the battery. They will complain if they can't use it when it's gotten passed 10-15% and throw a fit.

This was scary to read. Kids need sunshine, not blue light.

My kids get screen time but its not outside of the house. My son has been finding out that if he's bored it is his problem, that he needs to solve.

Canada's food supply ain't much better. In fact, a bit worse.

In fact, other than Italy, who did extreme measures to ensure the security of their food supply, much of the West consumes fake food.

Its disgusting. I only shop for whole foods and cook for my kids every day

That's because you're not deranged nor have you let the context control and curb who you are. You maintain who you are in spite of the terrain, and choose the paths to preserve your values/principles.

We are vastly outnumbered in terms of character.

Do you have kids Dan?

5 &8 yr old curt, they are my world.

You?

Grandbabies 3. They own me hard

You nailed it, brother, on all the fronts.

My two are almost 17, and just turned 16. I will always be thankful I was the ‘jerk dad’ on screens. I still wish they used them less, but being around any other kids, it is instantly put into perspective.

The food thing is so sad. Cooking is a joy in my life, and I can’t imagine not savoring food.

Your doing great dad. I love cooking too. I don't know how I will navigate the horrors of a cell phone, my guess is they will get them sooner than they need them.

At that point it's up to the character of your children.

Free will is and should be maintained. You just do your best and see if they were sponges and cam navigate according to the coordinates you instilled in them.

Intervene where necessary, within reason.

My kids got them at 14. Prior to that they had the Fire Tablets, that shut off to all but reading, after a set time.

When they are with me, their phones charge, in a central location, in the family room, before bedtime.

This is great information thank you. No phones into the night seems very good

GM Dan you’re a good dad 🤙🏼👊🏼🧡

Thanks Dave, you go any little ones?

Yes sir I’m a dad to a 3year old princess and I’m loving it 🗽🧡👸🏼

Oh man your just coming out of nap time. I miss that. Spend every second you can in her presence

Yes sir already on it. As much as I can 🫡 🧡🗽

Good morning Dan ☕️

GM Dan 🏴‍☠️🤟😉 The fact that we keep choosing convenience over meaningful connection and personal responsibility is exactly how we got to this point. But it’s never too late to make a shift.

As for your kids, you’re right they have the power to be the change, and you’re shaping the next generation of thinkers, doers, and maybe even Bitcoiners. Let’s make sure they’re armed with the tools to think critically, not just consume.

We are the creators of the future, and as much as it’s easy to fall into the cycle of convenience, it’s the hard things that build real progress. Let’s challenge ourselves and our kids to be better, stronger, and smarter than before. 💪🌍

Couldn’t agree more. It’s easy for me to medicate my kids with tech and junk food. It kind of even does the job, at first.

But there’ll be regret later…and a lot of guilt about the things you COULD have done

Morning Dan! The kids are alright, well... At least the nostr kids are...

I rage when I see kids being babysat by the phone or a tablet at a nice restaurant. Get a babysitter and leave them home or just stay home. I am guilty of putting a movie on once or twice when I was at a doctor appointment when he was under two and naps were missed. He has a phone with GrapheneOS and an esim that he paid for with sats. He uses it for listening to music or audiobooks in the car.

I think my kids can get phones when they buy them. I am not quite graphene but that's impressive

It was one of our old ones. He went on a trip with his grandparents and we figured he was old enough to understand the consequences of "running out of minutes" on the e-sim, but that way he could call or message us without bugging his grandparents. I think we got like one call and a couple of messages 😂. He's frugal with his sats and he's already a privacy nut that hates google and puts in fake birthdays on sites that ask for it.

I am going to get a notification from the ipads usage down 86% or 1.5hrs winters hard but vacations are for family

Exactly, screen time itself isn't bad ours is currently playing Mario tennis 😂. But being engaged on family outings and learning how to sit down for an hour or two at a restaurant are things kids need to do. We'll let ours bring a book or his ereader if we know we'll be a while. My sister's youngest can't sit at the table at home and eat without the phone in fromt of her 🙄

We brought a lego bucket for our sit down dinners

The final part is troubling… but true!
