Why? What do you prefer?

Its been really slow for me especially the file browser, it takes forever to open sometimes, switched to xfce (xubuntu) today... not by choice but because i booted into windows and it totally fucked my ubuntu install, had to reinstall.

I dont know if its really windows fault though because i reinstalled grub and it was starting to boot ubuntu but then it gets stuck in a reset loop idk why

🤨

I prefer KDE or XFCE

Yea ive always liked xfce, switched to it today

Seriously considered building my own desktop environment there for a while yesterday using rust and egui nostr:nprofile1qqsr9cvzwc652r4m83d86ykplrnm9dg5gwdvzzn8ameanlvut35wy3g4h5cp7

I can't even imagine what a colossal job it must be to do that.

where would that come into play? I just use a tiling window manager and no DE 🤷‍♂️

Never tried one, shill me your setup

Gonna run with i3 for a bit

i3 is the go-to. I use xmonad

i’ll back you up on xmonad

Its why i’m stuck on x11 😅

same!

If it's overkill try fvwm2 (verry powerfull configuration) or evilwm (runs on a casio watch, config has to be done in the header then recompile it.)

ELF ftw.

I just recently switched to cinnamon, so it easy for my wife to switch.

All depends on how it is configured, what extensions you have, and the intended purpose.

Vanilla gnome right out of the box is good for users who don't really do much with their computer. It can be cumbersome.

Start using extensions like forge for auto window tiling, vitals to keep an eye on your system resources, and arc menu. Then your ability to get work done speed wise increases exponentially. Also this setup makes for a pretty sweet home media server connected right to the TV.

That being said their file manager is horse shit. I switch it out for thunar immediately.

I also equally use KDE too. Which is better, but I don't get my work done as fast on it.

It kinda always did but I liked it more than KDE

KDE Neon here, use to hate that it had some many configuration options. But once you settle in and dial it in to your preference, I like it well enough...for now!

Why?

Tell us!

You are CORRECT! I prefer Cinnamon.

Gnome is ok for touchscreens. Plasma otherwise on laptops.

dwm on a workstation.

tmux on the servers
