I found this very odd ages ago when I first joined nostr. And still find it odd. I assumed everyone was totally cool with it.
This was the discussion I saw ages ago with vitor

We're okay with web's of trust until they're abused.
I mean web of trust, wtf is it really?... One user might find someone's 'untrustworthy'. I see why a user would want to curate their own feed, I'm sure we all agree with that, but to extend that to someone just cos they follow them, nah. I'm not going to agree with everything personal and political of the people I follow.
There is also an obvious problem. You have clients where they have autofollows on signup (not knocking this). Then you have a client like amethyst that has a mechanism where of 5 people you follow block someone they are blocked for everyone following them. I'm not saying it is currently exploited, but it could very easily be. Not to be all tin foil hat lololol. But generally adopted blocklists suck. I can happily make my own mute/blocklist.
*someone's politics/opinions untrustworthy.... Got missed out
The client could inform the user that N number of people you follow muted this account. And then the user can decide for themself.
Yes. But I remember the discussion went something like this: you don't like it? Start your own client. The freemarket will sort it out. And I've been waiting for damus on android ever since.
I like that. Especially if the user can choose N.
Maybe highlight the user's notes and replies in red or something. I think this would help people to more quickly recognize and block certain users/spammers. If I'm scrolling through a feed and see a red note, I'll look up that account and decide then and there if I want to block/report/follow.
