I was thinking about what the greatest song in the modern era is - say 1900 onward…

I think it’s incredibly clear without a shred of doubt that it’s Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

Does anything else seriously compete with this?

Not sure about it being "the greatest", but Brian May's guitar solo on it is definitely on my top 5 guitar solos of all time.

What are the other 4 guitar solos?

Oooooh... Can o worms time.....at the moment they are as follows :

1 - The outro to "Be Mine Tonite" by Th' Dudes (fantastic spontaneous improvisation)

2 - "Get Back" by the Beatles (simple but genius)

3 - "Bark at the Moon" - Jake E Lee

4 - outro to "Black Books" by Nils Lofgren (live version) - awesome acoustic guitar

5 - Has to be Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb"

Forgot Hotel California, kinda goes without saying really.

When you consider what the song was written about, it is definitely up there. If I had to choose my favorite queen song that transcends time, it would be “we are the champions” or “the show must go on”. The latter has a pretty badass solo well.
