This Chardonnay was a YOLO experiment.

It's the only wine I've ever made that HASN'T won an award because "It lacks varietal character"

That's exactly what I wanted.

So after hearing that and getting feedback from wine professionals that this was my best wine, I've stopped caring about wine awards.

You won't see me bragging about how well I fit into their narrow boxes for what wine "should" taste like.

This reminds me of how all cultivated apples represent a vanishingly tiny fraction of the genetic range of the world apple population. In their native region, apples are incredibly diverse, with unusual (including unusually delicious) flavors, colors, and more.

What we think an apple is is based on convention, and only one small window into what an apple can be.

It’s great that you’re not afraid to open the window of what wine can be!

Indeed, and this is also true from all food crops. The dazzling diversity that is seen is only a fraction of what exists. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

It’s really exciting to me and a big motivator of why I want land πŸ˜‚

I very much understand that, as I've always wanted to create a germplasm botanical garden. I live in an 18-acre, off-grid intentional community on the far East side of the Big Island, Hawai'i, and as wild as it sounds, creating and maintaining gardens here is very challenging indeed. I wish you invincible sucess in your land-acquisition endeavor. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™
