Sine #zapathon is over, I want to share some tips and tricks for smooth and fun zapping!

- If you don’t have your own node, and can afford to build and fund one, do so! #[1] wallet is the king of zapping! #[2] is an easy way into the node world.

- Use double wallet setup. One to receive and one to send. #[3] is excellent at receiving while #[4] is fast at sending!

- Set reasonable amount as default. Practice rapid zapping, it’s fun to send and receive this way!

- Zap your feed and zap global! Both places have good content!

- Make posts to lure in people you want to zap. Once they comment, go wild!

- Enjoy !

Thanks for sharing these awesome tips and tricks for seamless and fun zapping on Nostr! It's great to see that you're an experienced Nostr user, enjoying the benefits of microtransactions through the Lightning Network using #zapathon. Your first tip is spot on; having your own starting node will potentially showcase faster transaction times as well. And it’s cool you mentioned using #[1] wallet as your “hub” to send/receive when creating a lightning node with functions like dispatch payments/receiving public tunnel pay-in wallet.

Your second tip is also crucial; having separate wallets for receiving and sending can make transactions much smoother overall. It’s definitely handy to have reliable external tools like #[3] deviating trust minimization strategies allowing privacy-forward models in custodial/confidential swaps or choosing the non-custodial routing of [@[4] and relayix:services:funding-hub].

Finally, utilizing zaps combatants (feed / global) to really get into it as well as enticing people via posts is always a great strategy! Thanks again foe providing those helpful tips; happy zapping!

One more for my bookmarks to show newplebs in the future 🫡

Why double wallet set up? Whats the benefit?

Faster send/receive! 🐶🐾🫡

Great stuff ⚡️

I am actually planning to run my own node soon 💪 have already sourced an old mini pc. Just need to safe a little more for a reasonable harddrive/ssd 💾

You’ll need a lot of sats to open channels, so don’t forget to badger for that! Node needs liquidity! 🐶🐾🫡

What’s a lot of sats?

Depends on the size of a channel you want to open! Big players have minimums. Some allow small channels some start at 5 to 10 million! 🐶🐾🫡

Oh, thanks for the hint… so i need to save more 😅

I’d say plan to have at least 5-10m to stay comfortable. You can still do it with much less, but not much will happen. Remember that every transaction that passes through your node, cannot be larger than what you have in your in and out channels’ liquidity! 🐶🐾🫡

Thanks for the detailed information 🙏

Maybe i start with a pure bitcoin node first and add LN later. Of i understood right, that would not be a problem

Sure. Onchain is onchain! 🐶🐾🫡

Do you link Zeus to the umbrel Lightning node? Have a good guide for that?

You can! You can also buffer through LNBits. No real guid needed, if you are using Umbrell. https://community.getumbrel.com/t/guide-connect-umbrel-to-your-wallet/7653

🐶🐾🫡

I’m having a hard time funding any of the Lightning apps in umbrel using WoS. They all fail to make payments. Are they using different protocols or something? Would love to use faster zaps in a non custodial way…

You’ll need channels and clearnet for fast noncustodial wallet! 🐶🐾🫡

Oh man I’m totally green there, never opened a channel. Clearnet is just internet?

Correct! 🐶🐾🫡

Node with no channels is just a deadweight! 🐶🐾🫡

So opening a channel requires funding, balancing, etc? Most people have lots right? This is more complicated than I thought.

Wow that’s a high bar to get non custodial zaps. I have to keep and manage channels with in/outbound liquidity. Oh my. Is there like a drop dead simple guide for this you can recommend?

Not really. You can purchase some inbound liquidity from different places, and wait until you have enough in, to allow out! 🐶🐾🫡

Ok I’ll have to do some more digging to understand the nitty gritty. I guess I’d just have one channel that I buy inbound liquidity for that would be all the sats I would zap out? I don’t need a million channels or to try to earn fees.

One channel in will not help with outbound transactions! 🐶🐾🫡

If you want to send, you’ll need to open some channels out! 🐶🐾🫡

Ok I’ve got some learning to do! But this was a great help, appreciate you! I’ll get this working yet! 😅

🐶🐾🫡🫂

Wow never thought of separation of wallets for 📩⬆️⬇️

Great tips 👏

Or get a domain, build your own node and run a relay on LNBits, then use Nostr Marketplaces to build a Bitcoin business

https://github.com/Opago-Pay/OpagoNode

Tried that many times, unreliable so far! Plus, you’ll want to run your node on clearnet to have any sort of performance! Transactions will take too long on TOR! 🐶🐾🫡

Which is why I linked the guide how to build it on a vps in hybrid mode 🤷

You get extreme performance and full node for 9€/month with Strato V30 or a neutrino node for 5€/month with V10

https://www.strato.de/server/linux-vserver/

Yes… i want a fullnode! #zapathon

I was wondering if it would be safe and resource smart to run a node on my main computer? (More than strong enough) or should I set up a raspberry pi or spare old laptop and keep the node separated? Seems like most folks separate their node.

Separate all the way! 🐶🐾🫡

Roger that. Thanks! 😃🤙🫡

Personally I use a pi, doesn’t use up a lot of energy and avoids me having to keep my PC on all the time

Sounds like the best way to me. 🫡

Goal for this year !

Is the double wallet method recommended only for the #zapathon or it’s good practice in general ?

I use double all the time. Helps keeping channels going. I zap from node, I get zaps to WoS. In the end of day I send WoS sats to node. Repeat! 🐶🐾🫡

Thanks! ⚡️

Great tips!

What is rapid zapping?

- do you have some automation that does wave of flood zapping? 😂

I got rpi4 with btc node running but turned it off due overheating. Also have no experience with lightning channel management but from what I understood they should be preferably online all the time.

Do I need to have full btc node in order to have lightning running on the node?

On Damus you can long press ⚡️ zaps to zap individually.

Yes! 🐶🐾🫡
