It’s hard to explain why stacking even pennies worth of sats is so satisfying, yet if I lose an equivalent amount of change in the couch, it’s gone forever. I’m never going after it.

IMO, it’s not even about the money, it just feels good each time to make a Proof of Work vote for a brighter, freer future.
If you were losing an equal amount of pennies to your couch every day you'd eventually dig it up and change it into big fat bills.
Same concept applies to v4v and stacking sats.
pennies in the couch are going to be worth less tomorrow.
the sats are probably going to be worth more in fiat terms every year until fiat is finally dead.
