Funny, isn't it, how on the heavily moderated (and increasingly state regulated) "mainstream social media" I could get endless hate filled replies for tweeting that the sky is blue, and yet on the permissionless uncensored Nostr, people are just kinda... nice and chill without any policing whatsoever.

Almost as if those algorithms are designed to turn people against each other.

On nostr, I have constructive conversations with people I disagree with.

On legacy, I had arguments/fight with people I agreed with

🤷‍♂️

Absolutely this! -- Constructive conversations for the win! -- Cutting through static and boosting signal. -- Together WE are strong! -- Bitcoin helps with this. -- Let's get it fam!

Straight up.

I've only had one argument that got contentious on Nostr.

One.

Every single other disagreement has been perfectly amicable.

This is why we Nostr

Hope it stays that way forever

🙏

Oh, have you come across low effort trolls yet? I have seen one so far try to get a reaction.

Thankfully not yet just those airdrop spambots

Oh, yea those are everywhere. One bot cant be blocked and you have to remove yourself from its node.

That's true, negativity drives engagement, it's why the church found the most success during bloody campaigns against moors or women. Now that they've peeled it back to be "Buddy Jesus" fewer people are interested.

Indeed. Very good analogy.

“All preachers of morals, and all theologians, share one bad habit: they all try to talk people into thinking they are in a very bad way and need some severe, final, radical cure.”

We also have .001% of the users.

The normies are coming…

True true. I do worry about the the community declining as it grows.

Hopefully the kind of normies who argue about bullshit on Twitter won't care to stick around here anyway. That's what I've been hearing so far.

The V4V model rewards quality contributions whereas legacy social media rewards any type of engagement.

I think the bigger concern for us will be scammers and shitcoiners next bull.

Probably just because we are in the early days of a very niche platform with mostly likeminded people (bitcoiners).

Don’t hold your hopes up, that in the with normies and bots (hundreds of millions) entering that this will be the same.

You're 100% right that if we're flooded with normies it'd turn into Twitter 2.0.

I don't see that happening personally though simply because they've already made themselves at home on Mastodon and Bluesky and they'll go where the rest of their ilk are instead of a community they're often opposed to.

And I think the incentives of the V4V model help encourage quality content too, as opposed to the incentives on Twitter being literally any engagement.

The monetization is similar to the news industry. Eyes are needed for advertisers so if something bleeds, it leads. The difference is that its not restricted to a few hours at night but is running constantly.

Yup and most of it is inconsequential made up bullshit... hang on we are talking about why it's the same as the MSM right? 😅

Not only MSM but basically all traditionally financed news media.

Isn't it caused by the fact, that people want to do what is forbidden?

So if there is moderation there, they want to get away by doing things that shall not be done.

Maybe this could be 1 reason from many.
