Question that a coworker asked today. 10 years into the future let’s say AI and Automation has taken the jobs of a large majority of people. What do people spend their time on?

They probably just do sex work for money lol šŸ˜‚

But seriously I reject the framing of the question. LLM’s are fine, but they aren’t some panacea.

Similar. LLMs and Ai aren’t going to ā€œtake away jobsā€ anymore than the internet took a bunch of jobs.

Sure it made a 1,000 ways we used to do things redundant or wasteful, but it meant an *explosive increase* in the kind and variety of ways to create value. Ai will do the same, probably to an even greater degree. It is a tool that will make the scope of what we can do and create so much larger that billions will be pulled out of poverty.

LLMs are great & extremely useful in speeding up the ways we accomplish almost any task, but we didn’t discover god. It’s just a tool.

Thanks Guy. This is good perspective

🤣

I call them Text or Token Calculators further de-anthropomorphize them. Just as your calculator has sources of error and degrees of precision (GIGO, errors often multiply) these do too.

What you are talking about is a service economy which I analogize to everyone giving each other back rubs. Why do we disparage root production? Energy, food, materials, manufactures?

That is a question for each of us to determine for ourselves but I think most people can’t see what is possible because they are trapped today thinking that their life has value because of their job or social status. (Because the system reinforces that)

Ps - From the existing system, people will spend most of their time worried about what other people should do and build bigger government, regulation and handouts to tell them.

From the new system, I believe a higher level of consciousness, and depth of relationships where ā€œrealā€ value is rewarded.

Hey Jeff. This comment from 3 months ago related to ā€œHigher levels of consciousnessā€ has stuck with me. I’ve noticed a huge amount of personal growth since discovering Bitcoin. I feel ā€œwoken upā€ on many different levels. Any resources you recommended specific to the topic of cousciousness? I feel like Bitcoin will be coorelated with a developmental step in consciousness individually and collectively.

A good read on the subject is Power versus Force by David Hawkins.

We are definitely vibrating on a higher frequency with Bitcoin . I tingle when I zap šŸ¤™

lol that book is quackery

It’s simple. It starts looking more like a dystopia on a fiat standard and more like a utopia on a bitcoin standard.

Comedy. And spreading love.

AI and automation can’t provide those things. If AI and automation create exponential leverage, and more and more needs and mundane takes are taken care of, then the market (public desire) for things like love and laughter become more sought after and more valuable.

Basically anything you can do that is inherently rewarding, whether profit is there or not, will become more of a focus of people’s lives. Even if you don’t get money from it, it won’t ever be wasted time that you uplifted friends, family, or strangers or if you made them laugh.

But also we’ll be so connected, and have so much free time, that it would make financial sense as well to provide those things to a market that would value it, that can’t get it from AI and automation.

This is awesome. Thanks Adrian!

Obviously that’s about as optimistic a take on how those 10 years of growth goes for automation and AI and that’s it ends up being used to free us as opposed to control us.

But I think that’s the upside of what’s actually at stake with all of this.
