I don't have one, but if I did, I wouldn't get rid of it. I would unplug it turn when I'm home, and then turn it on when the house is empty and make it listen to 1984 on Audiobook on loop.

I don’t know how anyone with a “smart” anything can still be surprised at all of the data they are voluntarily bleeding out.
Never had Alexa in our house, only have non voice type Roku devices, and the couple Crapple devices I have have had any access to Siri blocked for all apps. Sucks to do it again after every new iOS version, so mostly family is switched to Pixels
Roku is one of the biggest data collecting companies out there. Their whole business model is to sell targeted ads based on your data
No disagreement here, but can’t live a perfectly anonymous life. Having a family that is not all onboard the BTC train, some compromises are made. My Pixel is running GrapheneOS, have not been able to get them onboard with that either yet…

I buy dumb things, but it's getting harder to do.
It's getting to the point where I'm going to have to buy appliance and physically remove the electronics I don't want in there.
The trouble is, if I were them, I would code the appliance to stop functioning if the microphone fails. That means I will eventually have to clone, modify, and reflash the microprocessor.
I really don't want to make a business out of that because I really have better things to do. But I see this coming.

I was never willing put any of this surveillance tech nonsense disguised as convenience/home automation bs in my place for this exact reason. Even if it wasn't in the TOS or whatever before now. Cost/benefit analysis was pretty straightforward
Now we are going more and more towards the world of control! Big companies will be able to do what they want with us. We are spied on everywhere. At home, on the street and now if we get to the cbdc (in Europe) they can turn us off with a click. Orwell was right.
