Short term it is better to dollarise, medium to long term they’ve just hitched their lifeboat to the titanic.

Not even #Bitcoin will save nation states in the long run - they’re fundamentally incompatible with the new economic structure it enables and they cannot adapt to the economic power going to the edge.

Woah, that last part hit me hard. I have known it a long time, but it was put so succinctly here. When a State is no longer able to steal wealth or intercept the acquision of it, it will cease to be a State, and it will become a seller in a market, in one form or another.

Correct. Without the coercive power to centralise money, and with no means to seize it as with physical assets regardless of how many armed goons they have, the State as we know it will be forced to drastically change.

I don’t believe it will wither away ala the Marxist utopia, but the terms of its existence and people’s interaction with it will look nothing like what we have today.

Interesting, can you elaborate or share a link about the future of nation states, Its a new topic to me and its kinda scary?

thinking about it, there would be a better opportunity for individuals or groups to become sovereign but the state would still control the actual physical resources of the country, they may join the new economic structure and still keep their population in the same old bubble

There isnt a great deal out there on the future of nation state’s specifically relating to Bitcoin that i know of.

You can read ‘The Sovereign Individual’ which was absolutely prophetic and ahead of its time in 1997, the authors envision a world with something like Bitcoin in it and understood the implications but it’s mostly talking about a world like we have today.

Balaji has a book called ‘The Network State’ which is ok and hits some of the right themes but misses others.

‘The Machinery of Freedom’ isn’t about Bitcoin but it’s an in-depth view of what a stateless society at scale might look like.
