there has been a lot of complaining about inscriptions without concrete proposals on how to stop them at the protocol level

anything that involves a centralized entity choosing which transactions are valid is off the table - that entity will be corrupted threatening censorship resistance

How big of a problem is this in your view?

I suspect that market principals will diminish the problem as usual.

the solution to high prices is high prices

My proposal: let the jpeggers line the miners’ pockets. In the meantime, stay humble and stack sats.

Agreed

What if the miners are the jpegers

Proritizing financial transactions over op_returns ones

Are there any solutions proposed yet?

Yeah, a lot of bad ones. The best solution is to wait while the problem solves itself.

There's no way to stop it, we just have to accept it

False. The economic gains and ability to form consensus keep us from stoping it. Its not worth it,so we must accept it.

No, there's just no technical way to stop it. We could soft fork in a ban if their schema but they could easily just slightly tweak it to get around. Getting rid of arbitrary data storsge on bitcoin is impossible, the only way to fix it is fees which they clearly don't seem to care about

Eliminate the 75% discounts will stop them

That will 4x fees, fees have already 500x'd, they don't care about fees

They don’t care in the short term. They care long term. But it’s going away alone. We don’t need to do anything. It’s a bubble

I appreciate your time & knowledge on the subject. What if a majority to nodes started running a preblock wars bitcoincore? This is where extra data was simply ignored as it isn’t supported?

Thank you for dispelling my ideas of a hard/soft fork

It's impossible to stop.

We will have to accept it.

Temporarily. Theres no way they can continue this kind of spending.

Lets just hope we take every sat from them

I hope so

How’d our bitcoin core devs overlook this?

It's existed since Satoshi

How could satoshi overlook this

It's interesting that the monero devs found a way to limit and essentially kill off ordinal inscriptions very quickly without a centralized entity choosing which transactions are allowed: https://github.com/monero-project/monero/pull/8733

I wonder if there is a similar possible approach for bitcoin core.

Bitcoin already has something like this.

Ordinals or BRC20

It doesn't matter who are what is using the Bitcoin to transact.

In large adoption fees will be high and go to the highest bidder.

People can still do the same thing as today but cost of fee structure will be higher.

This will stick if the market buys it or go away if it rejects it.

Where can I get no kyc sats over lightning?

Nostr

Robosats

Tried to use it but apparently muun doesn't work with them because of something called submarine swaps that I didn't know it was doing and charging me for.. Trying to figure out zeus when I realized I need a node. Now I'm downloading Bitcoin core and it's telling me it'll take weeks to finish. Is there a better way?

CISA, Channel factories, STARKs

Remove the discount. CISA makes it redundant

Startum v2 is the answer

By letting miners select transactions, so they can make less money? I mean, I guess some people will do it on principle...

like what happened to the free market

Market is free if miners choose transactions based on something other than money. They can choose to prioritize or de-prioritize ordinals, or their own transactions if they want to. Or only transactions that contain "69" and "420". It doesn't really matter, right?

Exactly. What exactly are people asking for… the Bitcoin Police?

Ordinals to Bitcoiners is feeling a lot like guns to the normies. “But there are bad people doing bad things with them.”

Well unless you are willing to go full Unabomber and attempt to remove the idea of Ordinals from global human consciousness… then it is a waste of time.

Adapting to the environment is usually time better spent than trying to change the environment.

Ordinals let us share a message with the future. I like that we could use Ordinals to share a message with the future. Imagine if there was an Ordinal made by Thomas Jefferson, but on the blockchain when the country was being formed. It was a letter about how people felt under rule of the king. Maybe it was about everyday life or the sacrifices people made for freedom. It could be his thoughts on what is important for people to get along. Anyway…

Something like that would take away a lot of power from bad actors in government who speculate what the intentions of these writings really were. Just imagine George Washington made an ordinal that is basically a memo stating in more casual terms exactly what “arms” he expected the average citizen to have access too. I imagine he would use words like “equal” or “greater than” when describing how much the people should have relative to the government.

Bitcoin is neutral. The people of Bitcoin should try to be that also. It is going to really embarrassing for them when they accept payment in the future that includes sats with associated buttplug ordinals, after all the shit they talked. All they have to do is continue treating Bitcoin like money. Vote with your own behavior. No preaching, just voting.

I don't care what they choose if only consensus quality is better.

What I find most surprising about the inscriptions debate (read: impotent rageposting) is how many bitcoiners just don't grok "permissionless". Some of them are OGs who have been here from the beginning. They still want to ban stuff that keeps to the letter and the spirit of the rules.

Bro, go back to the beginning and start learning all over. You missed the point of the very first lesson.
