So, how do I say it without sounding like a super racist cunt?

Asian professor, super intelligent, super enthusiastic...

I could only understand about 50% of his lecture.

And it's mainly the plain bits, as my brain is wired for ESL folks as many of my associates and friends are non-english speakers.

The actual new bits I came to the lecture for, the knowledge my brain had no reference for...

It was almost incomprehensible.

Do I tell him that?

Does he know?

Should he hire an assistant to present?

What's the fix?

If it's a quant course he's almost certainly just presenting a section of a specific assigned book. I always found it wasn't worth it to fight for lecture presentation quality. Read the book, follow along with the slide deck / whatever problem being discussed and then use office hours religiously. Good luck friend!
