I used to lay that shit in the ground but I didn't have to deal with burning the splices together at the pedestal. I would just leave a big coil of cable there for the technician.

I do that part too, thankfully most of our new cable terminates through surface flush vaults with splice cases in them. No mouse problems, no ant infestations, no drunks running them over or county mowers shredding them. Roll up in a truck or trailer to splice instead of sitting on a bucket surrounded by poison ivy in the rain with a multi-thousand dollar splicer in my lap. It's a way better system.
