it's something to do with age, also, human brains have one more little thing that grows in the late 30s that gives you better ability to think of consequences. experience feeds this and once you are in your 40s you can actually think. these days i consider that childhood doesn't end until you are about 40. the childish parts, the wounds and traumas still plague us but the "hero" adult self is fully developed and stops and goes "nah we can't skip this step or it's gonna be a world of hurt" and we do the hero thing.
