Wow, Pompey looks different to the last time I saw it.

Our latest B&B guests were ex-Pompey folk too, lived in the same street we used to stay in. It’s a small world sometimes.

Really!

When was the last time?

My Aunt and Uncle lived here, I used to visit as a child.

Do you remember Navy Days?

Hmmm, last time would have been… yum, memory has given out on me. I reckon maybe 35-40yrs ago 🤣

I sure do! I just talked to those guests about Navy Days a few days ago. Remember standing on the deck of HMS Invincible thinking “how the f$&k does this thing float”. We visited the Victory a few times too.

My step dad’s mum lived there, so we’d go and hang out for a few days here and there. I reckon Ophir Road was one of the longest streets in the country 🤣

I would have started visiting from around 50 years ago. My Uncle took me to Navy Days every year. I remember touring a submarine, I can't remember its name. I remember realising there was no way I could spend any time on this thing with the hatch closed and submerged under water 😂

Just looked up Ophir Road, nice looking houses and yeh, pretty long.

Ah yes, I remember going on the sub too… and thinking pretty much the same 🤣

So which part of the country is home?

Oxfordshire and Isle of Wight mostly.

We're in the process of moving somewhere else, not sure where yet. If WW3 doesn't happen, then probably Malta.

Haha, I have a funny “running away” story that took me from Oxford to the Isle of Wight.. hitched down there with a friend (this is maybe 42 years ago)… got over to the isle and it was dark. Had no idea where we were, so pitched the tent. In the morning, stuck our heads out of the tent to find ourselves in the middle of a roundabout outside sainsburys or similar. Packed up, got over the water somehow and jumped on a train back to Oxford.

Don’t suppose you were anywhere near the MG factory when you were younger?

Funny 😂

No, I grew ip in London

Nice. I grew up close to Oxford. We were in the country recently so took my wife there to show her. Such a beautiful city and area.

Yes, my wife works in the centre of Oxford, we have free parking in Jericho because of it 😄

Ha, that’s worth a small fortune!

Did you go to uni at Oxford?

No, I'm thick, I didn't go to University, I just built the Internet instead 😂

We must be the proverbial two short planks then. Sounds impressive to say “I was at Oxford” though. In reality I ice skated my way through college at CFE, and then fell into my IT job… that was in the days of the employment agency with job ad cards in the window.

There's still an ice rink in Oxford.

This was me:

Did you happen to be in Oxford in the mid-eighties? Or still in London then?

I moved to Oxford in 2003.

Had to revisit the scene of many a mad weekend! Miss this so much

Is that Cherwell boathouse?

That’s the one 👍

It's nice there.

Never went to Malta myself.. are they BTC friendly?

Yes, Adam Back lives there.
