Yesterday, i was having the same discussion. I personally prefer the word protocol even though it does not help the public to avoid the question: what is a protocol? 🤠

How is this not social media; just because the medium of exchange uses a protocol rather than a platform.
Using xmpp protocol is still social messaging W/O the platform.
It's all still social media and I question how it could not get you arrested in Great Britain for posting something considered unacceptable.
