1️⃣ Durante el tiempo que puedas aprovecharlos, trata tus bienes como si fueran ajenos. El apego a lo material y amado debemos considerarlo como efímero y no como propiedad.
Rechaza razonamientos como el que te obliga a estar siempre pendiente de algo y con ello sentirte permanentemente angustiado, de mal genio o en inquietud permanente. Considera que la apathéia* - impasibilidad - y la atáraxia* - imperturbabilidad - se logran gracias a no tomarse las cosas como vienen y sabiendo quién o qué son merecedores de sacarnos de ese estado de calma y generarnos perturbaciones del ánimo.
2️⃣ Si quieres progresar debes soportar que los demás crean que eres un necio y un insensato en lo que respecta a las cosas exteriores. Desconfía de aquellos que no lo hagan. Mantenerse firme en las decisiones que tomamos alineados con la naturaleza y echar cuenta a las cosas exteriores es muy difícil. Quien sopla no sorbe.
Céntrate en aquello en lo que sí eres capaz de hacer, en lo que depende de tí. No seas un insensato pidiendo imposibles a la vida centrándote en aquellas cosas que no dependen de tí.
✴️ "Todo aquel que pretenda ser libre, que ni quiera ni evite ninguna cosa que dependa de los demás; pues si no, por necesidad será esclavo."
3️⃣ Compórtate como en un banquete. Si la comida llega hasta a tí, alarga la mano y sírvete con mesura. Si pasa de largo, no lo retengas. Si tarda en llegar, espera que llegue junto a tí. Y así también respecto a loa hijos, la mujer, los cargos, la riqueza.
*Impasibilidad e imperturbabilidad vienen a ser sinónimos. Viene a reflejar el estado en el que no sentimos emociones que nos puedan arrebatar la calma y perturbar el ánimo. Sin embargo Epicteto define una y otra por separado. Investiga porqué.
