I'm sure that's partly why they're embraced so enthusiastically by globo-fiat statists, but I'd argue that spectator sports emerged naturally from a cooperative/competitive streak in human nature. When engaged in organically and out of genuine spontaneity, it's a wonderful example of unifying the bonds and diffusing the tensions between potentially hostile communities, especially on a more local level, where they maybe compete for resources. Just another noble, freemarket phenomenon, co-opted for nefarious purposes by the State.
I agree with you that there can be benefits but in its current form that’s now how it’s displayed.
I credit much of my perseverance to my playing sports growing up. It also taught me early problem solving skills to self coach my self to improve. Which also lead to self reflection.
Mixed bag for sure but I still watch select events.
You could maybe make the case too that “decentralization” is killing “classic college” sports institutions. With the new NIL rules the NCAA is now obsolete.

What you said plus, paid for my school, made life long friends, and it certainly helps with my career. Way more positives than negatives for me… to each their own. I don’t care.
