Fucked up the battery on my Google Pixel by charging it for months with a 20 volt MacBook charger. Whoops!

USB PD means it negotiates down to the lowest common denominator. Are you sure?

Decently sure, it crashes on boot and shows the battery health indicator. It might also just be so low on power that it’s unstable but the problem has been getting progressively worse.

My charger is old and ChatGPT said that it has the potential to miscommunicate. I’m going to leave it for an hour and see if I can get it to stay on after boot but definitely dysfunctional now. Got real hot too 🤣

I feel like the real problem is that fast charging wears out your battery faster, and the battery was already dying.

It definitely can’t negotiate 20V unless it had the hardware capability, and miscommunication between charger and device are almost impossible with USB PD.

You might be right. I’m certainly no expert. It only responds when I get it into recovery mode, could it be an issue with the OS?

Probably a fucked battery or PMIC, recovery mode needs significantly less hardware to work than a full OS

My iPhone has been charging for an hour and is still on 5% so clearly I have something against my batteries.

Thanks for your help!

Same here, but it's because of the daily fast charging not because of the wrong voltage etc.
