I’m thinking about gifting #bitcoin for graduations this year. Last year and the year before, I thought about it I couldn’t figure out a way to do it. Thanks to nostr, I’ve learned more about #lightning and the ability to create invoices. Is there a way to create an invoice, then create a QR code or some thing that can be printed, and then put that in a graduation card? The graduate could then redeem the invoice using cashapp or whatever they might have. They would then have the option to go down the rabbit hole or convert it to fiat if they really want to. The hope is that they will appreciate the gift, spread the word about Bitcoin and keep it and/or use it for #zaps here on nostr. This has to be something really easy, focusing on people who have never used #BTC or crypto in general. Thoughts? Thanks!

You can just create a main chain wallet and give someone the 12/24 seed words.

Or use one of these

Haven't tried it but I hear satscard is also good for this.

Or that. Many options 👍

This is absolutely brilliant

I also have a theoretical question, with all the BTC taxes in US, couldn’t you send your BTC to this device, pay the tax on “selling it like a payment” then keep the BTC without having to keep up with the taxes. This is all so overwhelming , they are trying to tax it into oblivion like they have done with anything they want to destroy. Thanks and I wish others would share more strategies on this topic

I used to gift paper wallets, but they have some drawbacks.

You might want to consider using a Satscard. https://satscard.com

Ordered some myself my friend to play around with.. the idea behind it is to use like cash have pre set amounts on multiples cards to hand over when internet is an issue, or to Orange pill the average joe by giving some sats.

I like this better than writing down a seed phrase and passing it to someone. That introduces risk of exposure, especially if you keep a copy. Of course, without keeping a backup, you can’t help them if they lose it.

Hey I just found you from reddit r/nostr. What client are you using

Damus

i was asking because the OP gave an Iris link to follow. I was wondering if you use any desktop clients

Nope. Never used a desktop client.

Iris is a good client with very helpful backup features if you ever decide to use one. If you do make sure you get an extension like nos2x first.

Not sure if I’m too late here but a couple options:

Lightsats is particularly good (and I have a tutorial for it on my channel if you want to check it out)
