The Netflix live action of Avatar the Last Airbender came out yesterday. my thoughts on the first episode...

The characters from the different nations look distinctly different while still maintaining cohesion. I think they did great on casting, especially Sokka. Every scene he's in is charming and funny. very Sokka.

The pacing and order is different from the original series but totally understandable why they showed things chronologically instead following the order of the original.

Hubs says the green screen work is noticeable. I don't notice it at all. He's somewhat of a wizard when it comes to stuff like that. With that said though, the sets and visuals do a great job of making the cartoon settings look like a real world.

"The words" of the opening make an appearance in the first episode. This homage moment doesn't feel shoehorned and was a little unexpected. I didn't think they'd include it but they did in a way that worked. With that said, I'm looking forward to "MY CABBAGES!!!"

I'm glad I don't remember much of the series on detail since I last watched it years ago. It feels fresh and exciting.
