My opinion on the matter is still evolving. I think we are all better off focusing on the quality of content being shared vs. paying too much attention to whether an npub is fake or real. In a sense, we are all fake. We put up our best side for everyone to see. Some stretch the fairness further than others, and some are completely fake. Of course, I don’t think it’s good to deceive people on purpose but at the same time…we are kind of asking for it. We are all participating in a system that enables quick and fake identities. Perhaps we should embrace it instead of trying to “out” everyone who feels fake? Does it matter if they are a cat, a model, a presidential candidate or an influencer? What difference does it make in their message? Let their words stand on their own, and if they don’t, just don’t reward that?Just thinking out loud… nostr:note1r8lzkxtfauxsye34wz7kn45sde7wr8jyvqnstlv92fws9xmd8ukqqr6vvr

And your name is "carnage" 4 A reason #canyoureason ?

Amen to that!

Well said. I don't care if it's a cat or an octopus who's giving me new ideas. Meaningful conversations don't require two humans necessarily.

For the longest part of my live, especially once I got into the furry community, I learned to embrace the fakeness and effectively lived two lifes: One IRL, one online.

IRL, I was shy, hard to approach, outcasted because i was just..."soooo weird" (read this with your best valley girl accent possible xD)

Online, I had friends, things to talk about and people to talk to most importantly. I also aquired a bit of a status and reputation and quickly found my niche I could slot into and became a mainstay at a certain place - all the things I never had IRL, but which were all based off of a fake personality. Because online, I was not shy and I definitively wouldn't have let anyone tell me that I was weird either. But in the end, it was effectively "fake".

I simply learned to copy some things from online to IRL over the years but it is far from perfect imho.

There is, in my opinion, nothing wrong about embracing the fakeness that anonymity and independence gives you. Maybe this is your way to express your inner self - the one who you really want to be and give that part of yourself a home and place to "exist".

But there are also the fake scammy accounts that nobody wants or needs - though I don't think this is what you are going after here. :)

Well put. I mean, scammers and fakes have always existed and will exist till the end of times. Perhaps we can take matters into our own hands by disengaging with anyone who doesn’t feel genuine without trying to prove their fakeness. There is always the odd chance that they are legit and we risk offending them.
