Universities are a problem but let me ask you allegedly smart people a question.
Does any competent person genuinely believe American corporations will hire SOLELY based on merit alone? There will be no bias or discrimination whatsoever?

“We are all prejudice / bias to a degree” to me is much better than
“ we don’t need DEI because we have moved past that as a society and are such moral ppl no prejudices exist we will hire based off merit”
