Why do advertisers have so much power? I guess because everyone wants everything for free, so they're the ones that end up funding everything. This is one of the things I'm afraid Bitcoin doesn't fix. People are dumb and greedy and won't realize that things will work better for them if they are the ones paying for them directly. They will put up with all sorts of bullshit just to get something for "free".

The internet is still very young; it will take people some time to realize this.
It's a challenge to price things online. Services will price things on the high side since they know few will subscribe so it'd better we worth it.
Too many companies have grown up in an easy money world. As they attempt to become sustainable businesses, they're going to upset a lot of people. I don't need any games in my life but if I did I'm sure I'd be paying $20-100 per. This is really a fight for the publisher as a business that needs to be profitable itself.
You forgot the #censorship power coupled with that. Without the #censorship power, the power alignments with regards to the power of advertisers would be a lot different. #NOSTR may just help balance things out a little bit in this regard. The more people hop in on here, the better for humanity.
