But you can self host.
Self-hosted gitea. Gitlab is a resource hog. But other than for self hosting, I’m not sure why bother.
Then there’s gitcitadel, which has been on my todo list to investigate for some time.
Larger repo size. We use it for repos that don't fit on GitHub, like kernel_pixel
gitlab is buggy. Gitea is faster, albeit with fewer features
