Curious about your opinion on fever control.

What temperature and for what duration is okay until protocol to reduce temperature needs to be implemented for children and for adults?

It is less about a number and more about how the person is doing. If the fever gets pretty high you can use a wet washcloth on the forehead to help. As nostrpunk said, "If children are consolable and able to eat, sleep, & drink then it's usually best to let it run it's course." I'd even say the eating isn't critical unless things go for several days.

Thanks for that insight. We have done wash cloths, they help a-lot. My primary concern is really the possibility of brain “damage” caused by the onset of high fever for an extended period of time. I’m sure there are studies out there on this, but I have not looked into them yet.

It is theoretically possible, but so exceedingly unlikely, that it isn't really something to worry about. If the fever gets that high, the kid will be near unresponsive and needs to be taken to the hospital immediately. I think that is something like 106 F.
