I don't want to generate debate, but I don't understand who wants to pay for a NIP-05 identifier. I can understand that there are paid relay's, but you can fight spam and bots in many ways. I have seen prices of up to 45,000 sats for an identifier! Have we gone mad?

If the goal is to fight bots, 100 sats would be enough, wouldn't it?

And no, it is not expensive to host a NIP-05 service, a media server or a relay server is another thing, but just to validate?

Fair! But I guess it’s more about prestige than anything. Some NIP-05 comes with the relay, payment is for both, and accepts writes only from specific NIP-05 domain. If for example some brand started selling NIP-05 and charging for having the privilege of wearing their name, I am OK with that. It’s like paying for domain name. 🐶🐾🫡

Good point!

I guess it is "just" an identifier, that could be used as a utility to identify paid members. And what you pay for will be differing for different nip05-s.

There are cases that do have more services, but I have seen some that are only for the NIP-05, then the relay is paid for separately!

It's definitely a prestige issue, but almost all of us NIP05 verifiers are newly created. Just a thought, but it fascinates me to see some of the prices.
