There's alot of Japanese on at this hour.

Question : is referring to Japanese people as "Jap" offensive?

We in Ireland have a huge connection to Japan in the car scene and use the term alot but a friend from the states said we shouldn't be saying Jap.

Just want to hear people's thoughts.

I would refer to a really good tool as a “Jap made masterpiece” and I would not refer to a Japanese person or place as Jap , it’s slang and too informal imho

Yeah I'd be pretty much the same.

We have a large Jap car scene , so Jap cars , Jap tools and Jap parts ect but I'd say Japanese referring to a person

Too late if it is 🤣🤣

Haha 😅 , yeah it won't change how you we Irish use it I'm just curious.

I think WW2 ruined that for you 😂

I don't remember Ireland sending troops to Japan haha 😂

Haha I just meant the word, you might need to speak to the Americans about that 😂

Is your American friend Japanese?

I'm guessing you wouldn't be asking here...

As an American, North American actually, of non-asian descent... I have heard that "jap" is considered offensive, but I've never heard a Japanese person say it, so... I guess we should be asking them...

Yeah see Americans are the ones saying it's offensive, so I said I'd try ask some Japanese #nostr users

Sounds like a silly goose 😄
