You can lose social capital by being truthful and refusing to be a part of a lie. Like, following a leader’s orders by lying to your subordinates even if you know what you’re telling is untrue or a lie. You gain social capital with your leadership. By refusing you might lose it or lose your position for someone who won’t refuse.
Just tell people where you heard it from. "My leader told me to tell you this..."
