The mainstream media claims that Americans will have to toil in sweatshops to keep up with China's increasingly automated factories, which now rely less on human labor. However, the reality is that new U.S. factories will surpass their Chinese counterparts by being more automated and driven by artificial intelligence.

You're not wrong about automation, but that field too is highly competitive between the two countries and China is investing huge money into AI.

I think the US will retain its top spot for now but the future is anyone's guess honestly.

100% agree. It's how tech works. Leapfrog the capex which bought machines now a generation or two behind. Start with newer and better at relatively the same price. It happened in telecom, it'll repeat in manufacturing.
