#asknostr tribe:

what do you think deters people from using #nostr or adapting nostr?

I am genuinely curious. nostr is 5 yo and keen to hear those who have been using #nostr.

what is the hindrance to #nostr's universal adaption like other social platform?

objective: how can we invite more people to join and the key word: make them stay? ☺️

Most clients are unfinished and have lots of bugs still to be worked out. Things like video posting & DMs that work on other platforms are difficult to use, or don't work well on Nostr. Interoperability is an afterthought in a lot of cases.

Also there is almost no one here. The network effect is real, and Nostr doesn't have it. Yet.

you have echoed some of the pains that users encountered esp the new ones. to some degree, I also echoed some people who suggested: can we have 1 decent working client with the basics/foundation working. eg filtering of feeds, searchability, dms, videos.

I'd prefer one working client and more relay operators under the hood.

Most people don’t have an interest in curating their own feed. Sadly the major of internet users have been force fed an algorithmic slop of ads and random posts. They have completely lost the desire to joyfully discover what keeps bringing them to the web.

some habits take sometime to replace. but if we have the ability to curate, filter our feed properly and search contents, I doubt it will be difficult to adjust. however, if those basics are not fully functioning yet then this will defo affect adaption. ☺️

It feels fringe to people. I have friends starting content careers who just don't understand the trap you put yourself in on a platform. They probably never will, until its too late.

That plus people love to follow their shows, celebs, teams, etc. NONE of which are present here. Honestly, paying for large accounts to publicly declare a switch to NOSTR only would probably be huge. Kind of like the Rogan/Spotify deal.

indeed that would be an instant publicity for nostr. but let's say we have this publicity, is #nostr ready to accommodate and handle the demands? People who respond to this thread have valid points on the matter. 👌☺️

Depends on the person for sure.

Kim K? No.

Mr Beast? Maybe.

OpenAI? Yes.

i ask people... they're happy with the other socials and don't see the need for another. they don't care about decentralization. they complain when there are changes to what they're using. as far as most are concerned there's no need to learn something new, and they don't want to.

keep the tools that work for you. I hear it a lot as other new tech. however, I heard the same thing when Tiktok was new until they discovered its unique selling point (usp) or the edgy side of tiktok. The question is, is the problem decentralisation and getting comfortable or have we missed to give our USP - pain points? If we can market #nostr, are we ready to handle the demands? 🤔

It's true to get people to move we must do better then other socials.

The good news as I see it is Nostr is a protocol so it is much easier to innovate on it, and it is also decentralised, sure many don't care but "own your identity" is a good selling poin.

Nostr is social media for people who do not like social media.

and what are those?

People they follow aren't on the platform. If even some of them were on here and posted here first, that might be a simple way they would switch. So question might be why influencers are not on here? Because they depend on the algorithm to promote them?
