I don't have many #UK followers so this is a bit of punt, but how many of you guys would be interested in learning off grid skills ??

I'm thinking solar, bio gas, food production/preservation, heritage living skills, etc etc.

I've toyed with the fantasy of setting up a market garden/education centre for years. But never really thought there'd be much of a market.

But the last few years seem to have shifted people's attitude..

The philosophy behind it is to create a network of self reliant communities.

Yeah this could be a possibility. Have you go the space to knock together a rocket oven or two? Bought some parts and Paul Wheaton's video on how to make it just lacking the time and space to do it.

Not at the moment but I'm eyeing up some land which promoted the question 😉

Hope you get it! Land is always the issue here isn't it? It is also the reason I started buying Bitcoin.

If you get it and need a source of income for the venture consider cider making. Why? You get a duty free allowance as small cider maker so all that tax duty goes to you when you sell it and it's a low risk food product so you don't really get food inspectors coming round.

Even if you don't want to sell it I think it a good community thing to do and pressing juice for people to ferment at home is bureaucracy free..

That's what I am trying to do round here just need the space! Hopefully I can buy part of my neighbours garden or Bitcoin can help me buy an already existing orchard before they chop it down for housing!

A bit of state jujitsu is always a good idea. A cider guild is on the list of activities 😁

I'm looking at a few ex-industrial/brownfield sites, the remidal work will also be a course..

Why not offer your services as a tree care specialist to people with apple trees in your area ?

You take care of the tree regarding pruning, take the apples, press them return the pasteurised apple juice. What's left gets turned into cider. Some cuttings can be rooted and pips grown on to sell as trees or be the planting stock for your orchard.

Small patches of unused waste ground could support a tree or two.. 😉

Great idea.👍 I did it a few years ago 😂. The problem then was the lack of network effect. Everyone round here was over 80 when I moved in. Thankfully the demographics have changed to more young families so I am going to guerilla garden the neighborhood with more apple trees in the autumn and hopefully get some help with the pressing if people don't flake out.

Sometimes the timing is just out on a good idea

I'm rebuilding my fruit press in a couple of weeks. I'll video that and share the link. I have the usual channels under a brand name, I need to re start posting to build up that network.. 👍🏻

It's a good idea, I know of someone here in Australia who has started, they are doing primitive fire skills sessions and then expanding from that.

If you dont think you can get to a physical site to teach skills/knowledge, have you thought about writing a book to get all the info together. Self publishing on like of amazon is a low cost startup route
